Ryazan State Medical University took 301-350th place in the first pilot ranking of BRICS universities, presented by the Association of Ranking Compilers. Out of 825 universities proposed there are 600 higher education institutions from 10 countries. These are universities that hold leading positions in global academic rankings and in addition these universities are leaders in national rankings. Peking University, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Tsinghua University are considered to be leaders. China ranks the first place in terms of the number of universities (207), Russia is in the second place (161).
The head of the Association of Ranking Compilers Dmitry Grishankov noted that the methodology of the rating takes into account national peculiarities and focuses on the success of students in International Olympiads. Scientific works in co-operation with foreign colleagues from BRICS also play an important role as a new criterion in ranking. The idea of the rating was proposed by South Africa in 2023 year and supported at the meeting of BRICS education ministers in Kazan.
Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative to develop a rating based on the ‘The three University Missions’.
